Climate change represents one of the key global challenges today. In fact, the climate change phenomenon is already a reality and while the countries are devising their adaptation policies, sharing texperience adaptation measures become not only essential but also mutually beneficial. That is why one of the CEI priorities is to promote, at national level, a climate change vulnerability assessment and a Plan of Action on the Adaptation to Climate Change. This will go hand in hand with initiatives and measures aiming at climate change mitigation in order to adequately address the human impact on climate change.

In this area the CEI focuses on the following priority issues fully outlined in the CEI Plan of Action 2010-12:

  • Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
  • Sustainable Development and Environment Protection
The CEI supports projects and activities through various funds and instruments:
  • Cooperation Fund for small scale multilateral projects i.e. seminars, workshops, training courses
  • Climate Fund for projects in climate and environment protection in the 9 CEI – EU Member States
  • Know-How Exchange Programme for projects related to transfer of  good practice to the  non–EU CEI    Member States
